Maybe it has to be something else

Todo parece a punto de estallar. El mundo se está calentando insoportablemente rápido. Las opiniones políticas están cambiando radicalmente hacia la derecha y mi abuela acaba de empezar a planear su propio funeral. Mi amigo Elias siempre hierve el agua un tiempo de más mientras cuece la pasta. Le gusta cuando el vapor sube y ha empezado a gustarme también. Porque tal vez tenga que ser otra cosa. Al fin y al cabo, comer una gran olla de sopa con la familia, ir al sauna con lxs amigxs o que unxs desconocidxs me inviten a un asado es la verdad del asunto. Luego podemos protestar, podemos salir a la calle todo lo que queramos, pero antes hay que ver cómo se levanta el vapor, lentamente.

Edgar Lessig estudió Bellas Artes en la Universidad de las Artes de Linz y en el Camberwell College of Arts de Londres. Recientemente ha completado un programa de danza contemporánea en Tanzfabrik, Berlín, y actualmente está escribiendo su tesis sobre “Arte y caos” en Estudios Aplicados de Cultura y Arte. Entre sus últimas exhibiciones individuales figuran Stiege 13, Viena, y Memphis, Linz.


Everything seems like it will boil over soon. The world is getting unbearably hot fast. Political views are radically shifting to the right and my grandma just started planning her own funeral. My friend Elias always boils the water a little longer while cooking his pasta. He likes it when the steam rises up and I have begun to do so too. Because, you know, maybe it has to be something else. After all, eating a big pot of soup with the family, going to the sauna with friends or getting invited to an asado by strangers is the real deal. Later we can protest – we can take to the streets all we want – but before this there is some steam to watch, rising up slowly.

Edgar Lessig studied Fine Arts at the University of Arts Linz and Camberwell College of Arts, London. Recently he completed a program in contemporary dance at Tanzfabrik, Berlin and is currently writing his thesis on ‘Art and Chaos’ in Applied Studies of Culture and Art. Recent solo exhibitions include Stiege 13, Vienna and Memphis, Linz.
